Project Engineer

Founded in 1979, OKAMOTO Structural Engineering (OSE) is a structural engineering firm based in Costa Mesa that specializes in retail, commercial, industrial, residential and government buildings and structures (wood, masonry, steel, concrete). Today, OSE is seeking to grow through hiring additional professional engineers, diversifying our product offering, capitalizing on synergies with our sister company (JMC2 Civil Engineering + Surveying) and launching new business development initiatives. The Company is adopting scalable administrative solutions for its operations (e.g., integrated accounting/CRM solution, new computer and phone systems, overhauled pipeline reporting, etc.).

OSE is seeking a Project Engineer who understands the need for client satisfaction and the benefit to maintaining quality control and timely delivery for of our structural engineering projects. He/she will apply broad knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices in development of calculations, reports, and construction documents. The PE will work independently to evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and design criteria. This individual will be required to interact with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others and to attend project meetings. Works closely with the VP, Structural Engineering and Project Managers to prepare complete project documents solving complex engineering problems and coordinating with our CAD team.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Completes engineering projects and tasks to the satisfaction of the Project Managers and clients
    Measure:Projects are being completed in a timely, coordinated, and complete manner.
  2. Provides accurate and professional structural engineering calculations, reports, and details
    Measure: Structural engineering calculations, reports, and details are neat, legible, appropriate, and pass plan check in a timely manner.
  3. Understands project budgets to ensure alignment with company goals
    Measure: Project budgets are being met.
  4. Resolves client disputes for engineering projects to ensure overall client satisfaction
    Measure: There are no customer defections due to his/her work performance.
  5. Responsible for engineering projects
    Measure:New engineering contracts are being quickly and accurately processed. Project are profitable and to the client’s satisfaction. In responsible charge of their engineering projects and stamps & signs all engineering plans and calculations under their responsible charge
  6. Confirm that the correct design and specification standards are being used
    Measure:All projects are being submitted and processed in accordance with each governing agencies’ latest adopted standards and technical specifications.
  7. Responsible for some business development in coordination with the Accounts Director and CEO
    Measure: Accounts Director confirmation of adequate and timely assistance.

Skills (min.):

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (civil preferred)
  • Experience: 5+ years
  • Industry Experience: Structural engineering design in Southern California

CAD Specialist

Founded in 1979, OKAMOTO Structural Engineering (OSE) is a structural engineering firm based in Costa Mesa that specializes in retail, commercial, industrial, residential and government buildings with all types of structures (wood, masonry, steel, concrete). Today, OSE is seeking to grow through hiring additional professional CAD professionals and engineers, diversifying our product offering, capitalizing on synergies with our sister company (JMC2 Civil Engineering + Surveying) and launching new business development initiatives. The Company has adopted scalable administrative solutions for its operations (e.g., integrated ERP/CRM solutions, new computer and phone systems, overhauled pipeline reporting, etc.).

OSE is seeking a qualified and experienced CAD Specialist. This person should possess strong technical skills in using current versions of drawing software (e.g., CAD, Revit) and should be able to work relatively independently on small teams on their own to produce a moderate to heavy level of production output (about 2-3 projects per week). In addition to strong technical know-how, the CAD Specialist should also possess strong operational and administrative skills that would enable him/her to assist the engineers with scheduling projects and conducting file set up.

The CAD Specialist should possess a meaningful number of years’ experience that will allow each of them to work relatively independently and with minimal oversight and supervision. Understanding and appreciation for client service and deadlines is a must. Ideally, this person will have the aptitude and reasonable level of experience in training the other Specialists in employing modern time saving techniques and methodologies (e.g., linking sheets) while always testing those methods in search of the best way to proceed. The Specialist should be capable of adapting their prior experience to OSE standards and methodologies.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Performs the computer aided design and drafting (CADD) for all the company’s entire portfolio.
  • Prepares accurate and quality work products. Ensures that plans, sketches, etc. are in compliance with all relevant building codes and project standards
  • Joins a well-established CAD team assisting the engineers in their work and staying on track throughout the project. Work oriented towards results.
  • Performs effective client coordination on a timely manner, scheduling, monitoring and ensuring that projects are completed on time. Organizes and standardizes client files and drawings.
  • Takes ownership of assignment/project results with minimal assistance from engineering staff. OSE’s work products are being processed and approved with minimal delays or plan check corrections. Can handle heavy workloads under tight deadlines.
  • Provides administrative support (i.e., project status reports) to the VP of Engineering in their responsibilities.

Skills:

  • Education: Associates Degree; Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Experience: 3-5 years; 8+ years

CAD Manager

Today, OSE is seeking to grow through hiring additional professional CAD professionals and engineers, diversifying our product offering, capitalizing on synergies with our sister company (JMC2 Civil Engineering + Surveying) and launching new business development initiatives. The Company has adopted scalable administrative solutions for its operations (e.g., integrated ERP/CRM solutions, new computer and phone systems, overhauled pipeline reporting, etc.).

OSE is seeking a qualified experienced individual with strong technical, operational and team leadership skills. Must be able to manage the work of our CAD production team with 3+ draftspersons.

The CAD Manager position is a critical position at OSE. An employee at this level usually has many years’ experience and special training. They shall perform the complex computer aided drafting (AUTOCAD and Revit) work for structural engineering projects under with no supervision for all aspects of our work portfolio. This employee trains their CAD team using established methodologies while always testing those methods in search of the best way to proceed. The CAD Production Director keep projects on schedule, prioritizes the CAD team’s focus, and reports directly to the Vice President of Structural Engineering.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Keep projects on schedule and the staff priorities focused on due dates. Attends weekly meetings with principals to provide updates on project status.
  • Performs the computer aided design and drafting (CADD) for the company’s entire portfolio.
  • Performs effective client coordination on a timely manner, scheduling, monitoring and ensuring that projects are completed on time. Organizes and standardizes client files and drawings.
  • Prepares accurate and quality work products. Ensures that plans, sketches, etc. are in compliance with all relevant building codes and project standards
  • File organization and security: Responsible to all keep project files organized, accessible, and backed up.
  • Takes ownership of the CAD Department’s performance and work products. Oversees staff and their compliance with quality control standards in advance of plans and sketches going out to our clients.
  • Aids the CAD team and the engineers in their work and staying on track throughout the project. Work oriented towards results.
  • Takes ownership of assignment/project results with minimal assistance from engineering staff. KOA’s work products are being processed and approved with minimal delays or plan check corrections. Can handle heavy workloads under tight deadlines.
  • Keep work flowing and the CAD team constantly busy. Stays organized and on top of the workload always making sure that the entire production staff (CAD, engineers, etc.) keep working on billable projects.
  • Maintains office software and hardware. Develops and maintains standard details library.

Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Experience: 8+ years

  • Certifications: CA driver’s license
